Our Farm Story.
We Grow for You
Are you committed to feeding your family food you feel good about that is also good for them? Then you are the reason we farm.
Cardinal Farms grows food the way you would if you were a farmer.
You partner with experts in many areas of life - doctors, contractors, mechanics, stylists. You choose people and products you can trust when the outcome is important.
But who is your food partner?
Who do you trust to grow your food? To grow it naturally, with concern for what goes into the soil, the plants and ultimately into your body! We want to be your trusted partner for the food you choose to eat.
Cardinal Farms wants to be your farmer for LIFE.
Healthy life. Whole life. We want to be your farmer to give you food and experiences that grow your life for good.
Who We Are
Cardinal Farms is a small-scale production farm located in South Lyon, Michigan. It is owned and operated by Rich and Cindy Kern. First generation farmers, we are developing a farm site that combines pasture-raised livestock, a 1 acre market garden for vegetables, herbs and cut flowers and educational programming and events for children and families. We didn’t plan on being farmers when we married 13 years ago, but this path has opened up and we are thrilled to have our own land and to be farming full-time! Cindy is a graduate of the Michigan State University Organic Farmer Training Program and Rich has 30+ years in business development. We know our career and life experiences will help us grow Cardinal Farms into an impactful part of our community. We have a passion for people to experience full and whole lives which is why we offer opportunities for firsthand connections to the farm in addition to delicious, organic food. We look forward to getting to know you and becoming your farmer!
Why We Farm
The mission of Cardinal Farms is to steward the land, livestock and opportunities for learning in ways that positively impact the health and habits of our community. Along with providing avenues for convenient delivery of responsibly and organically grown food, we want to provide connections for our customers so they can strengthen their relationship to the foods they eat and where it comes from. We believe it is by the farmer and the consumer working together that our food system can become better for the people, animals and the land.
How We Farm
Cardinal Farms is located on 10-acres just outside the heart of downtown South Lyon on a former horse farm. We practice biological and organic methods to grow our vegetables and flowers. Our livestock are raised in spacious pastures with a wide variety of grasses and are treated humanely, with respect for the resources they provide from birth to harvest. Through the implementation of methods which focus on biodiversity, Cardinal Farms is growing into a farm that offers nutritious and delicious produce and meat, gorgeous cut flowers and engaging educational opportunities.
